It has been a tricky month for MacBest

After the Europeans in Finland, we have had a small set back. Unfortunately Katrina’s injury from the Europeans has taken a little longer to heal than hoped. After being on crutches for 2 weeks we have to make sure that we don’t rush back into the boat in case of a reoccurring injury. Initially it was hard to know how best to use this time whilst Kat was out of action, especially as it isn’t a boat where someone can jump into very easily. So we temporarily created the shortest FX team in the world with Lucy crewing for me. The first few days were in almost perfect conditions in Poole Harbour. We also competed in the 49er Nationals, although there were only 4 FXs it was fantastic to race around with the full rig 49ers, we even managed to beat the top guys in 1 or 2 races. We had a 100% winning rate taking away the 49er FX National title.

The next hurdle to face was whether I would be going to Santander for training in the lead up to our World Championships in September. Lucy and I thought that going to the venue to gain knowledge about the racing areas would be valuable to both of us. We were lucky enough to have 16 other FXs to race with in Santander, the boat handling was a bit ropey here and there but we still managed to get some good results.

We are now all getting ready for our next training camp in Santander.  Luckily, Kat and Andy are back in action, as much as we enjoyed the shortest team prize in the FX we can’t wait to get back sailing as MacBest and MacWalsh again!
