2017 Season – Check!

Covering 3 different continents in the first 3months of 2017. Going on 30+ flights before the end of August. Many hours driving our boats around, it has been quite a full on year.

Team Macgains (Team Ainsworth/ Macgregor) formed in January of 2017. With Soph being the top crew in the country in the 49er FX, when she suggested that we should do an Olympic Campaign together it was hard to say no. Travelling around being able to do what we love, avoiding the real world for another 4 years – why not!

Poor Soph had to deal with me being out of the boat for the last 18+ months, having a wobbly helm at the back of the boat is definitely not ideal for making the crews job easy, sorry Soph! It soon came flooding back to me and once I found my sea legs we were able to put in some good results for our first year campaigning together. Including, Miami – 9th, Hyeres – 11th, World Cup final 4th, Kiel Week – 8th, Europeans 10th, Worlds 12th.

As well as competing in the 49er FX together we have also been part of Team Magenta 32 on the World Match Race tour, sailing with and against some of the most experienced sailors in the World.

We have spent A LOT of time together, definitely more time than our own boyfriends. There are many ups and downs of Olympic campaigns and it feels like we have had our fair share of both. A few injuries here and there (don’t use your foot as a fender…) however the downs are luckily outweighed by the glamour sailing days and laughs along the journey.

Due to my poor effort on keeping my blogs up to date it has been tricky to remember all the details of this year. We are looking forward to being in the UK for a few months focusing on our fitness and getting hours in on the water.
